County to Track Kids with Eye-Based ID System

The Kane County, IL, sheriff's office has become the first law enforcement post in the Midwest and third in the nation to utilize iris recognition biometric technology to identify missing children. The $25,000 system was purchased with aid from The Child Project of Massachusetts, which is working with the Nation's Missing Children Organization to develop a national database of missing children. The technology can detect a match in seconds and will augment fingerprinting and DNA swabbing.
