C&H Police Seek Quick Access to Gated Communities City administrators in Murrieta, CA, are set to change development code so that gated communities would have to use standardized frequencies police can use to open gates. Currently, police have to radio dispatchers to get law enforcement codes for specific communities, which can sometimes be outdated. Although this has not caused any major problems yet, Sgt. Dennis Vrooman said the change would ensure police can respond as quickly as possible to future emergencies. The local fire department already uses more sophisticated strobe lights that automatically open gates, but those units cost more than $500 to install. The remote control devices the police department plans to buy if the standardization requirement passes cost about $100.
