Emergency Operations Center In Touch with Real-Time Information
During the Democratic National Convention (DNC), fire, police and EMS officials used a rear projection interactive whiteboard to monitor traffic in the Northwest communities surrounding Boston. In cases of emergency, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was responsible for coordinating the response efforts of more than 40 local and state agencies.
With no-fly zones and road closures in effect, EOC staff needed a hi-tech display to act as the hub for their network of satellite images and video cameras.
"The interactive whiteboard became our eyes on the roadways," says Woburn Police Chief Philip Mahoney, who led the planning and logistics for the Northwest EOC. "We simply touched the SMART Board's screen to navigate through maps, graphics, computer files and even the Internet. We immediately accessed the information we needed when we needed it."
Chief Mahoney and his agency counterparts routinely used the SMART Board 3000i interactive whiteboard, by Smart Technologies, Inc., to view GIS images, detailed road maps, and video from traffic cameras, in order to assess traffic incidents.
